What is Shell Casting?
As its name suggests, Shell Casting uses a shell to create the shape. Patterns are made out of steel or cast iron, which are heated and placed on a dump box. This is then turned allowing sand in the dump box to come into contact with the hot pattern, which reacts to give a hard sand shell. Done across two moulds, they are then clamped together to create a complete mould for the molten metal to enter.
Why choose Shell Casting?
Although shell casting can be costly, it does produce an excellent surface finish, whilst delivering exacting dimensional accuracy. It is perfect for high quantity, small complex items.
