What is Gravity Die Casting?

Gravity Die Casting is a process often used to create intricate components. It is similar to sand casting, however with the die is made from steel or cast iron, a good surface finish is guaranteed. As its name suggests, gravity is used to allow the flow of the molten metal into the die. Before pouring, the inside of the die is sprayed with a coating that helps the cast to be removed once cooled.

Why choose Gravity Die Casting?

This form of casting is often used if a better surface finish and greater dimensional accuracy is required. If deployed for high order quantities the process can prove cheaper than sand casting as the die can be re-used. Aluminium has to be used, due to having a lower melting point than steel or cast iron which the dies are made of.
  • Cheap process for large quantities

  • Good surface finish

  • Good dimensional accuracy

  • Minimal post machining process
